Jacob Balgley

1891 – 1934

Artist of the Paris School, engraver and painter. Studied architecture and philosophy. During his studies in Paris, he lived in the commune Beehive.

Some of Balgley's paintings are kept in the Corporate Collection of Belgazprombank in Minsk.

Lived and worked in Paris.

Born in Brest-Litovsk (Grodno Governorate, Russian Empire, now the Republic of Belarus).

From 1911

Moved to Paris, studied architecture and philosophy, lived in the commune of Houlle.

1914

He volunteered for the army, but was discharged due to heart problems.

1920

Entered the National School of Decorative Arts.

1924

He had his first and only solo exhibition at the Barbazanges Gallery.

1925

Completed 21 etchings for the album Études Inachevées (Unfinished Education).

1934

He died of a heart attack and was buried in the Pere Lachaise cemetery (Paris).
