Polina Khentova

1890 – 1933

Born in Vitebsk. She studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Brussels. She worked in Munich and Paris. She was exhibited at exhibitions of the World of Art society (1916 and 1917), the Moscow Art Theater (1918), Exhibitions of paintings and sculpture by Jewish artists (1917, 1918) and the Autumn Salon in Paris (1921, 1926-1928). In 1920 she went to Berlin via Kyiv. She gave painting lessons, performed commissioned portraits and book illustrations. In 1923 she settled in Paris. In the first years, she earned money by teaching lessons and making dolls, and acted as extras in films. In 1925 she participated in an exhibition of artists at the La Rotonde cafe. In 1926–1928 she exhibited paintings and graphics at the Autumn Salon and became a member of the salon. In 1930, with the support of the English artist Edmond Kapp, she moved to London. She held solo exhibitions in the London galleries Brandon Davies (1930, painting) and Bloomsberry (graphics). She died at Queen Square National Hospital.
