Belarusian Dream

Elena Rabkina 2024
"Belarusian Dream" 2024, acrylic on porcelain. Exhibited at Ars Electronica, Austria; Sziget Festival, Hungary.

Belarusian Dream serves as a testament to the artist's journey as a refugee, grappling with the tumultuous waves of 2020. Painted with acrylic on porcelain, this piece emerges as a mosaic portraying the fusion of pain and magic, capturing the essence of the Belarus protests where 200,000 people united at the Stella in a collective dream that never materialized.

The broken plate, an intentional act of memory, mirrors the shattering disappointment of that moment. Each stroke on this fractured canvas becomes a ritual—a delicate dance of pain and hope. As Elena Rabkina meticulously pieces it back together, every fragment tells a story, serving as a metaphor for the broken yet resilient spirit of Belarus.

In that moment of letting go, Elena found solace, and as she painstakingly reconstructed the shattered fragments, she discovered strength in every imperfection. "Belarusian Dream" became Elena Rabkina's personal odyssey—a journey of healing, resilience, and an embrace of the untamed, imperfect beauty of a nation's aspirations.
