Felix Gumen

One of the founders of the Vitebsk School of Watercolor. A representative of the natural-realistic movement. Member of the Belarusian Union of Artists of the USSR.

His works are characterized by a philosophical interpretation of images, poetic sublimity, polystylism, the use of complex technical methods and their combinations, associative color, and the experimental nature of artistic language.

Lived in Vitebsk.

He was born in the village of Koltsovo, Kumarsky District, Amur Region, in the Far East, into the family of a border guard.

Childhood and youth were spent in frequent moves.

He graduated from school in Volkovysk.

1958-1962

Studied at the art and graphic arts department of the Vitebsk State Pedagogical Institute (today the educational institution "Vitebsk State University named after P. M. Masherov")

Studied with I. Stolyarov, V. Dezhits, D. Generalnitsky.

1965–1974

He taught at the Vitebsk Pedagogical Institute named after S. M. Kirov

1965-2006

Member of the Belarusian Union of Artists of the USSR.

He left the Union because much of what was happening there did not correspond to the artist's personal beliefs.

January 14, 2026

He passed away in Vitebsk.
