Articles on KALEKTAR

Belarus is ruled by a repressive dictatorship that suppresses freedom of speech. Government-controlled media suppress information about the growing number of political prisoners, the alarming number of disappearances, and the ineffectiveness of laws and the Constitution in guaranteeing human rights. My project explores the phenomenon of digital everyday life through the interaction between a person and media channels. Modern society, filled with countless distractions, has become accustomed to turning away from images that cause discomfort. The work is divided into two parts. The first part contains a selection of absolutely absurd and horrifying detention stories from Belarus. I studied them and created staged photographs based on these stories. In part two, I used news headlines that appeared on the specific day of these arrests or trials. I compiled a selection of 12 news stories for each case and used the headline of each news story as input to generate corresponding images using a neural network. I want to show how the agenda tries to distract us from the most important issues. Propaganda quickly tries to drown out unbearable political news. Additionally, I want to explore our tendency to avoid important issues and instead occupy our minds with an overabundance of entertaining content.
