Born in the city of Chausy, (formerly Mogilev province, Russian Empire, now the Republic of Belarus) in the family of a tailor.

Won a scholarship to attend the School of Fine Arts in Odessa, where he worked and carved glazes on wood.

He then entered the Antonolsky School of Applied Arts in Vilnius (Lithuania).

1911

Moves to Paris.

1911-1919

He completed his studies in the workshop of the sculptor Antoine Bourdelle in Montparnasse.

1912

Creates three stone sculptures in the Salon of Independents. During this period he became a close friend of Modigliani.

1925

Exhibited at the Salon of Independents: un buste de jeune fille and une femme cupée (reclining busts of a girl and a woman, both made of stone).

1939

The war comes, many of his works disappear or are destroyed.
