Artur Klinov

1965

Artist, photographer, writer, journalist, publisher, art critic. He also works in cinema as a screenwriter, screenwriter and production designer. Founder and editor-in-chief of the pARTisan media project. Organizer of the Kaptaruny art farm.

Organizer and member of the "BLO" community, participant of exhibitions of the "Forma" group.

Manifested a representative of Belarusian culture as an image of a modern partisan.

Together with Viktor Petrov and Denis Romanovsky he organized the international festival of performance "News", with Tatyana Novikova - a festival of video art.

Initially he appeared at exhibitions as a painter and actionist, in the 1990s he began to work with objects and installations. In the 2000s, Klinov began to engage in photography, journalism and literature.

Artur Klinov moved from expressionist painting to Sots Art, which rethinks and sneers at the Soviet past. Irony and nostalgia are, perhaps, the main markers of the artist's objects, installations and novels, whether they are suitcases filled with cult books, birdhouses made of Belarusian furniture from the early 20th century, or "Partisan Boutique" - a mobile installation created in the form of a store of Soviet mass culture items. In the photographic and literary project "Minsk - the City of the Sun", Artur Klinov rethinks the architectonics of the Belarusian capital, which appears as a large-scale installation-attraction, where the architecture embodies the scenery of the "great utopia" or "gateway" to the USSR. With mass cultural codes and architectural decorations, the artist works in a series of works made of straw.

In recent years, the artist has been experiencing great interest in working in cinema, where, as a production designer, he creates "real" scenery. And where, as in the film "Masacra" (2010, director: Andrey Kudinenko), you can see the dynamics of the departure from the figurative, which symbolically manifested itself in the burning of the author's straw works.
