Aliona Pazdniakova

1984

Visual artist, photographer, researcher.

Works primarily within photography, video and text. Her practice resembles a visual research and combines photographic and philosophic experiences with a particular interest in the phenomenology. Using the capacities of both documentary and staged images, experimenting with art forms, genres and styles, in recent works she is trying to dissect the cultural constructs of collective identity. By shifting focus from the figure of the other towards the phenomenon of group identity, she is using artistic language to reflect upon the mechanisms of its construction. Being fascinated by the origin of things she is often in a dialogue with antiquity and traditional cultures, striving to decode and visualise new ethic and aesthetic standards as well as principles behind contemporary mythologies.
