SAN CRISTÓBAL

Alexey Shlyk, Alexey Shlyk & Ben Van den Berghe 2017

The installation consists of computer-generated photographic wallpapers, collages that are largely inspired by the creations of the Mexican architect Luis Barragan. The modernist architect considered architecture to be a "sublime act of poetic imagination” and was mostly known for his minimal usage of colors, in particular the color pink. Barragan had designed The stables of Saint Cristóbal in the late 1960s for horse enthusiasts, but in the first place for the horses themselves. When horses would walk before his pink wall, the architecture would turn into a natural stage. Barragan's painterly style also draws a link to the poetic methodology of the German architect Mies Van der Rohe.
