404: NOT FOUND

Maxim Sarychau 2015

How can a person just disappear? It seems impossible in peacetime, in today's digital society where each step is logged by mobile operators and surveillance cameras. But people are disappearing, and the reasons are different: mental illness, the loss of orientation in an uninhabited area, homicide and suicide, kidnapping.

In most cases, relatives of the missing are alone with their grief and in search can only rely on the strength of friends and responsiveness of the people around.

In Belarus, the police and the rescue services either do not engage in such cases or are ineffective.

Following the volunteers from search group Angel, I tried to convey the atmosphere of the places where people had disappeared, and the psychological state of their loved ones. These places - uncomfortable areas of our daily life that searchers should discover. They gaze into the darkness of the forest and step by step to move forward, hoping for the best.
