Sirens

Anton Sarokin 2017
Ongoing, sample pack with 64 sounds and 1 video

Samples, imported to the MIDI controller, can be played in any order allowing one to explore and experiment with meanings and their potential. All sounds were synchronised by the artist between themselves according to tempo and divided into groups of instruments depending on their timbre and audio frequency characteristics: voice single, voice collective, bass, drums, drones, melody, sfx (special effects), freezed reverbs. Each sample is related to an everyday local context, including traumatic events from Belarus’ recent past. The understanding of sounds, as well as the understanding of all other units of communication processes, depends on their position within a certain sequence and in turn on their proximity to other elements. Here sounds have been disconnected from the place of their origin and are free-floating. Allowing the viewer/listener to control the sounds, and consequently their meanings, the artist offers us an opportunity to freely manage the frequency and recombination of sounds, at the same time also handing the responsibility over to us (the viewer/listener).
