Zinaida Astapovich-Bocharova

1898 – 1993

Artist, portrait painter, poster artist. The artist’s creative heritage was discovered only towards the end of the twentieth century. More than 600 works of painting, graphics, and illustrations have been preserved. The first exhibition where her works were exhibited took place in 1989, when she was 91 years old. The first personal exhibition took place only in 1998.

Now the artist’s works are stored in the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus (more than 50 works), the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore, the Museum-Estate of N.K. Roerich (village of Izvara, Volosovsky district, Leningrad region, Russia), numerous private collections abroad, most of them - with her grandchildren in Minsk and Vitebsk, with her great-nephew in Moscow.

Born in Minsk.

She studied at the Mariinsky Women's Gymnasium in Grodno.

1914

She began her studies at the drawing school of the Imperial Society for the Encouragement of the Arts, under the guidance of N.K. Roerich.

1918

She becomes an art teacher at a school at the Obukhov plant.

1923

Enters the workshop of V.N. Levitsky and A.R. Eberling at the Petrograd Art and Industrial College.

1930—1941

Teaches graphics at the workers' faculty of the Leningrad Veterinary Institute.

1942—1944

Teaches drawing at Molotov Secondary School No. 66.

1989—1990

A joint exhibition of works by Arkady Astapovich and Zinaida Astapovich-Bocharova was organized in Minsk and Vitebsk.

1993

She died in Vitebsk.
