Nadya Sayapina

1989

An interdisciplinary artist, working in the field of socially engaged and community based  art, positioning herself as a mediator to reveals the voices of the "others"—those excluded, vulnerable, and traumatized. Presented in various forms such as multimedia, performance, installation, text, and fine art, her art strives to become a platform for highlighting the critical issues and discovering the profound social role of art. She employs methods of interviewing, surveys, data collection, and participatory and art-therapy practices, to articulate both the common and the unique within the polyphony of community experiences. She often uses the self/body as a powerful medium for her artistic expression.Through these methods, the artist aims to open pathways for self-reflection, overcome traumatic experiences and the cultivation of empathy.

Lives and works in Warsaw, Poland.

Took a part in art-residences SPRAVA, KONTAKT, RECREATION ON THE BORDER, Belarus.

September 2020

Arrested for 15 days for participating in a anti-violence campaign Art of Regime, Minsk.

October 2020

Left Belarus and moved to Kyiv, Ukraine.

2020-2023

Was a fellow of Goethe Institute, MRI and took a part in CEC Artslink, Pilotenkueche, PerspAktiv residences, Ukraine-Germany.

2021-2022

Was a guest lecturer for the winter semester at HFBK University of Fine Arts Hamburg, Germany.

2022

Moved to Warsaw, Poland.

2022-2023

Was a set designer and a head of production design of the Opera King Stakh’s Wild Hunt by Belarus Free Theatre, Warsaw, Poland - London, United Kingdom.
