Writer, musician, composer, artist, sculptor, teacher.

A prominent and productive representative of Belarusian culture: he created several thousand engravings, showing the state of historical monuments with documentary accuracy - it is on the basis of his engravings that they are being restored today. Born in the family estate of Vorotsevichi, Kobrin district, Grodno province (now a village in the Ivanovo district of the Brest region , Republic of Belarus).

He was baptized at the Exaltation of the Cross Catholic Church in nearby Yanov. He received his primary education at home from his parents, after which he studied at the gymnasium in Svisloch.

1823

He entered the Vilna University at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics.

1827

He was arrested and expelled from the university for participating in the activities of the secret student society "Zoryane" . After a 15-month prison sentence, he returned to Vorotsevichi, where he was under police surveillance.

1831

He took an active part in the uprising, for which he was awarded the cross of the order "Virtuti Militari" and received the rank of captain .

1883

After the suppression of the uprising, he was forced to leave his home and emigrate to Paris under a false name. While in exile, he lived in Austria, Switzerland, Italy.

Received the status of an emigrant in France and stayed in Paris . At this time, his main priorities in creativity are determined - music and painting.

The Parisian period of life brought Napoleon Orda fame in wide circles of the European intelligentsia. He was acquainted with Franz Liszt, Gioacchino Rossini, Giuseppe Verdi, Charles Gounod, Hector Berlioz, Honore de Balzac, Henri Stendhal, Pauline Viardot, Ivan Turgenev. Together with Frederic Chopin, he played music at evenings in the houses of the Platers and Czartoryskis. He took part in literary meetings, accompanying the poetic improvisations of Adam Mickiewicz with piano playing.

He studied drawing in the studio of the architectural landscape master Pierre Gérard . Traveling in France, Austria, Scotland, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Portugal, North Africa, he painted landscapes, mainly city views.

1847

He became director of the Italian Opera in Paris until it closed during the Revolution (1848). He took an active part in the activities of the so-called Great Polish Emigration.

1856

After Alexander II announced an amnesty for the participants in the uprising, he returned to his homeland . Lived in Pinsk .

1862

He moved to Volyn and, at the invitation of General Adam Rzhevuski, was a home music teacher.

1872

Left without a livelihood, the artist traveled and made sketches of landscapes, architectural monuments, cities and towns in Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Belarus . The artist made his drawings with a pencil, then supplemented the pencil drawing with watercolor, gouache and sepia. It was this technique of drawing, which the Horde thoroughly mastered, that made it possible to quickly and most accurately display the architectural landscape in travel conditions. The artist also chose one format of paper for himself - a sheet about 30 cm long pasted on a planchette. There is a small detail in each drawing of the Horde - people are depicted at ease, as if inadvertently.

April 26, 1883

Died in Warsaw . According to his will, he was buried in Janov in the family vault.

2007

The 200th anniversary of the birth of the Horde was included in the UNESCO calendar of memorable dates . On his birthday, February 11, Google changed its logo.
