Kazimierz Alchimowicz

1840 – 1916

Alchimowicz is considered one of the last Belarusian and Polish artists of the romantic direction. He painted pictures on historical and mythological themes, landscapes of Lithuania and the Tatras, religious canvases, genre scenes. Exhibited in Warsaw, Munich, Odessa, Krakow, Vienna. His painting "The Funeral of Gediminas" (1888) won awards twice. In addition to painting, the artist was fond of painting porcelain and faience, as well as woodcarving. A large number of works by K. Alhimowicz are stored in the Warsaw National Museum. The elder brother of the artist Hyacinth Alchimowicz.

He lived and worked mainly in Warsaw.

Born in the village of Dembrovo near Shchuchin (Russian Empire, today the Republic of Belarus).

1863—1864

He took part in the uprising, for which he was exiled to the Urals. There he began to write.

1869

After returning, he lives in Warsaw, where he studies in the Drawing Class of the artist Wojciech Gerson.

1873—1875

Continues painting studies in Munich.

1876—1877

Lives in France, exhibits his paintings in Parisian salons.

From 1877

Lives mainly in Warsaw.

From 1890

Starts teaching at the private school of drawing and carving Posvikova.

1916

Died in Warsaw.
