Born in the town of Shiluva in Lithuania.

From 1797

Studied human anatomy and physiology at Vilna University.

1798—1799

He was a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Vilna University, where he studied with Francis Smuglevich and Jan Rustem.

1803—1806

He studied in Dresden and Paris, was a student of Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres and Jacques-Louis David.

1806—1811

He worked in Vilna and Volhynia.

1807

After the death of Smuglevich, he tried to take his place at the university in Vilna.

1810

Arranged a personal exhibition of his works in Vilna.

1811

Settled in St. Petersburg, where he painted portraits of the royal family.

1812

He was admitted to the Imperial Academy of Arts (for the canvas "Beneficial Charity and Care of the Empress Maria Feodorovna for the Poor").

1822

He was elected chief of the White Eagle lodge.

1824

The artist met Adam Mickiewicz, who had a great influence on the artist's worldview. Around this period, the artist often traveled to the Belarusian provinces, where he made many interesting portraits in the style of late classicism and romanticism.

October 5th, 1830

The artist died in St. Petersburg.
