"Every year on March 25 - the National Day of Independence in Belarus, a holiday not officially recognized by the authorities - in the Soviet Square in Bob Alexander Pushkin puts on display "The Picture of Liberty", together with the white, red and white flag attached to it.

The painting in dark colours depicts the oppressed nation as a disorganized mass of people, violent functionaries and grotesque devils. On one day of the year the artist gradually paints over the painting, by adding elements referring to the liberation tradition - the flag of the Belarusian People's Republic, angels' trumpets heralding the victory. Pushkin assumes that when he finishes the work and manages to exhibit it in the National Museum in Minsk, it will be possible to say that Belarus is free. While painting "The Picture of Liberty" the artist is holding conversations with local people and visitors about the condition of Belarus. Each step of the artist during the event is carefully watched by the militsiya, who are slowly getting used to Pushkin's eccentric actions and year by year grant him more freedom than previously in carrying out the happening. In 2009 for the first time painting of "The Picture of Liberty" was not interrupted by militsiya officers."
