Lev Aleksandrovich Yudin

Painter, graphic artist, silhouette painter, figure of the Russian avant-garde. Student of Kazimir Malevich. At the age of sixteen he joined the association of avant-garde artists UNOVIS.

In 1921-1938 he kept a diary, which is one of the important sources for understanding Malevich's pedagogy, his personality, relations with students, as well as the evolution of non-objective art in the 1920s-1930s. Yudin was a master of book graphics, worked as an illustrator in the best children's magazines of his time "Chizh" and "Hedgehog", illustrated the works of Oberiuts D. Kharms and A. Vvedensky, was interested in printed graphics and engraving.

Born in Vitebsk (Russian Empire, today the Republic of Belarus). His mother taught him how to cut out paper, constantly cutting out the silhouettes of different animals while playing with children.
