Catalog of the exhibition

20.09.2012 – 16.01.2013

Exhibition in the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus of the works of eleven famous artists of the School of Paris born in Belarus - Marc Chagall, Chaim Soutin, Yevhen Zak, Yaakov Balglei, Pinchus Kremen, Nadia Hadasevich-Leger, Robert Genin, Sam Tsarfin (Zarfin), Mikhail Kikoin, Osip Lyubich, Osip Tsadkin – a significant event in the cultural life of our country and far beyond its borders. Their biographies are typical for artists from the cities and small towns of the Belarusian region: an interest in drawing from an early age, receiving an art education first in the Motherland, and then far from the native land, in Paris, through constant self-improvement and self-sacrifice - asserting oneself as a creative individual and, finally, success And after 100 years - the return to the Motherland by masters already recognized by the world. Famous museums of the world have the works of our famous compatriots, who not only entered the history of French art, but also brought the Belarusian spirit, new colors to the painting palette of European art. Thanks to the initiative of the management of Belgazprombank, this movement in art of the 20th century, little known to Belarusians, will be presented for the first time at the exhibition "Artists of the Paris School from Belarus" with original works. In the future, they will be shown to the general public in all regional cities of Belarus and in large museums outside the borders of our country. This exhibition really contributes to the return of the names of talented compatriots to the Motherland, to the deepening of knowledge about the history of art of Belarus, to the enrichment of both Belarusian and European culture, to the foundation of which our famous compatriots made a significant contribution at the beginning of the 20th century.

Uladzimir Prokoptsou, general director of the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus, candidate of art history
