Oleg Yushko, Lubenec & Yushko, Kirill Lubenec 2010
Installation with book edition, unique laser cut and 3 light boxes

The idea of the work is to present an unofficial romanization of the Cyrillic alphabet using the Volapyuk encoding as a possible translation of literary works.

As part of this experiment, texts written by Kirill Lubents in Cyrillic in Russian were romanized.

Thus, the translated works formed the book “The ABC of the Absurd”, individual pages of which were presented in the form of light boxes. The book was published in an edition of 200 copies, and one copy was produced using laser cutting instead of printing.

The author of the project is interested in what might happen to the reader’s understanding of the text. How much can Volapyuk's encoding change the perception of the text by a Russian-speaking reader and what will a reader who speaks one of the Romance languages be able to see?
