Gavriil Vashchenko

Artist, teacher.

He was born in the Belarusian Polesye, the motives of nature of which were reflected in the artist's work throughout his life.

The applied direction of education that the artist received had a great influence on the development of his work. He became interested in monumental art and, being in the 3rd year of college, he already made murals in the building of the Supreme Council of Ukraine.

By distribution in the Lvov School, he left for Moldova, where he lived for 6 years.

After moving to Minsk, he taught for a long time at the department of monumental and decorative art at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts.

He worked in the field of easel and monumental painting, watercolors, in the genres of plot-thematic paintings, portraits, landscapes and still lifes. In his works, he addressed the themes of civic content, patriotism, and love for the motherland. He devoted a number of paintings to past events and historical figures.

Lived and worked in Minsk.

Born on June 20, 1928 in the village of Chikalovichi (BSSR, now a village in the Gomel region, Republic of Belarus).

1948

He graduated from the Kiev School of Applied Arts (now the Kiev State Institute of Arts and Crafts and Design named after Boychuk).

1955

Graduated from Lviv State Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts (now Lviv National Academy of Arts).

1955-1960

He taught at the Republican Art School of Chisinau (Moldova).

He was accepted as a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR .

Came to Minsk at the invitation of Vladimir Stelmashonok at the All-Union Exhibition in Moscow. He headed the department of monumental and decorative art at the Belarusian State Theater and Art Institute (now the Belarusian State Academy of Arts).
