Mikalay Tarasyuk

1932 – 2015

The artist was fond of wood carving and weaving using paints, straw and fabric. Nikolai Tarasyuk managed to achieve the greatest fame during the All-Union Festival of Folk Art in 1987.

Entire compositions made of wood, vines and straw are dedicated to the creativity of the Belarusian peasantry and Belarusian folk rituals. He also has works on the difficult economic situation of the peasants under different authorities. He was also engaged in the manufacture of musical instruments: pipes and harmonicas.

He built a separate house for his exhibits, calling it the Museum of Uspamina Batskaushchyna. The museum, which has no analogues in Belarus, has about 300 works of authorship.

His work received the status of intangible historical and cultural heritage of the Republic of Belarus.

In Poland, a film "Gaspadar" was made about Nikolai Tarasyuk.

Lived and worked in the village of Stoyly (Pruzhany district, Belarus).

He died in his native village from a stroke.
