Fedor Sukhavila

1917 – 1994

Original artist, master of painted carpets.

During the entire period of his creative activity, which was repeatedly interrupted for many years, he created more than 100 painted carpets and chests, Easter eggs and other items - turning, carpentry and joinery items. They clearly showed high performance and aesthetic properties.

The artist always built painted carpets according to an established compositional principle: in the center of the canvas - a combined bouquet of flowers in a decorative vase, on the perimeter of the carpet - an ornamental border with stylized elements of a plant nature. The author used a black background for his works and achieved a special volume of color due to the contrast of light and dark.

The master of wall carpets lived for several years in the village of Bobruyshchyna of the Psuevsky village council, where Fedor Ivanovich's family bought a house. When the artist's wife died, Fedor Ivanovich lived in Glyboky in the winter, with his daughters' families, and in the spring, summer and autumn he came to the village of Babruyshchyna, painted sketches, mock-ups, tableaux, lived alone, personally cultivated the garden, grew potatoes.
