Lyavon Barazna

1929 – 1972

Soviet artist, cultural researcher and public figure. Specialist in folk stage costume.

He paid great attention to the study of applied folk art. He is one of the creators of national themes in the Belarusian art of the 1960s and the author of costume sketches for a large number of folk music groups. He actively fought for the preservation of the historical and architectural environment of Minsk, systematized and studied engravings by Frantzisk Skaryna.

Lived and worked in Minsk.

Born in the village of Novoe Selo (BSSR, now Tolochin district of the Vitebsk region, Republic of Belarus).

1955

He graduated from the Minsk Art College (now the Minsk State Art College named after A. K. Glebov).

1957

Album of drawings Belarusian folk ornament of Polissya.

1958

Album of drawings Belarusian folk clothes.

1960

Album of drawings Ornament of the Grodno region.

1966—1969

Chief Artist of the Art Fund of the BSSR.

1967

Member of the Belarusian Union of Artists.

1968

Graduated from the Faculty of Arts and Industry of the Weaving Department of the Belarusian State Theater and Art Institute (now the Belarusian State Academy of Arts).

1969

In co-authorship with Zenon Poznyak , he published an article in the Pravda newspaper on the topic of preserving historically valuable buildings and quarters in the center of Minsk.

1972

Published the monograph Engravings of Francysk Skaryna.

August 15th, 1972

He was killed in Minsk under unexplained circumstances.

2010

Opening of the exhibition "Lavon Barazna. Heritage" at the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.
