Born in the agricultural town of Rakushevo, Mogilev Region (BSSR, now the Republic of Belarus). He graduated from high school in Kruglovo.

Graduated from the Faculty of Arts and Industry of the Belarusian State Theater and Art Institute (now the Belarusian State Academy of Arts).

He worked as an art editor of the publishing house "Belarus".

He teaches at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts.

Curator and participant of art exhibitions and exhibition projects in Belarus and abroad.

Acted as head of the Department of History and Theory of Arts.

Vice-rector for scientific and creative work.

Since 2010

Rector of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts. Professor of the Department of History and Theory of Arts.

2011

Curator of the Pavilion of the Republic of Belarus at the 54th Venice Biennale.

2020—2021

As a rector , he participated in the repression against students who protested against the falsification of the 2020 presidential election. In this regard, since June 2021, it has been on the sanctions lists of the European Union.
